George Orwell’s blog

This is a great idea!

Some scholars at the University of Westminister in London have started publishing George Orwell‘s diary from 1938 as a blog (you can even leave comments). The professors have humorously enough include hyperlinks for words such as hazel nuts and white owl.

The idea is to bring more attention to Orwell’s writing, especially among young readers. And even though Orwell seems obsessed by the weather (ex today: “Everything in Suffolk is much more dried-up than in Kent. Until the day we arrived there had been no rain for many weeks & various crops had failed.”), the professors can assure us Orwell will write more about pre-War Europe next month (aka September 1938).

It is now in my RSS feed. (via New York Times)
